Neermahal- The Lake Palace of Tripura

Neermahal literally means Water palace. Also known as the 'Lake Palace of Tripura'. Situated in Tripura state of India in North East Region. The palace is a picturesque fairy-tale royal mansion located in the middle of the Rudrasagar Lake built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya at 1930 A.D as his summer residence being inspired by Mughal style of architecture. Based on that every year in the month of August a big festival is observed by the local body and Govt. Department which is called “Neermahal Water Festival”. The festival is observed for 3 days and many colourful cultural programme and event are played in the evening. A big attraction of the Neermahal water festival is the boat race in Rudrasagar Lake. Different kinds of boats participate in that boat race competition. Apart from that, a swimming competition is also organised in the festival.
The Neermahal festival second time organised in the month of December every year with some glorious cultural events in the cold atmosphere of the winter season.
How to Reach Neer Mahal
As this is in Tripura state, you have to go to Tripura to visit here. It is just 45km away from Agartala Railway Station. You may get a shared taxi or you can rent it also, depending on your budget, which would hardly take one and a half hours to reach this beautiful place. And 57km from Agartala Airport. From where you can also get taxis or shared taxis.
Fees For Neer Mahal
One needs boats to reach the palace in the middle of the lake. Now there are regular tourist boats for the visitors. They keep coming and going and cost around INR 50 per head. Also, one has to pay around INR 50 for a ticket for entering the palace, upon reaching the other side.
