Kumbhalgarh  Fort is a famous fort situated amidst the Aravalli Hills of Rajsamand district near Udaipur in Rajasthan state of western India. Around 82 kilometres from Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh fort has the second largest wall after the great wall of China, which is 38 kilometres long. The magnificent fort is situated in the middle of a forest which has been turned into a wildlife sanctuary. It is the second largest and the most important Mewar fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh Fort. Kumbhalgarh Fort in its present form was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century who was the king of Mewar from the Sisodia Rajput dynasty. The fort was strategically constructed on a hilltop to keep an eye on entire surroundings. 

 

The Fort is also the birthplace of Mewar’s legendary king Maharana Pratap.

 

 

Places to Visit

Main monuments inside Kumbhalgarh Fort are Ganesh Temple, Vedi Temple, Parsvanatha Temple, Bawan Devi Temple, Kumbha Palace and Badal Mahal.

Badal Mahal which is situated on top of the Kumbhalgarh Fort gives an amazing view of the entire Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary which is spread across the Aravali Hills. You can visit the Badal Mahal and get a lot of pictures clicked alongside enjoying its beautiful scenic view.

 

How to Reach

Kumbhalgarh Fort is easily reached by taking regular buses. The Rajasthan Government runs regular state buses around 50 km from this fort or you can also hire a taxi from Udaipur City. The nearest airport is Udaipur at a distance of 98 kilometres. The nearest railway station is Udaipur City which is 88 kilometres away.

 

 

Tickets

Entry ticket costs Rs. 40 per person. There’s also a light and sound show which starts at 6:45 PM. The tickets cost Rs. 100 for Indians and Rs. 250 for foreigners. The duration of the show is 45 minutes.
