The Road Trip To Asia’s Most Haunted Place Bhangarh Fort

With several stories and mysteries but an impressive 16^thcentury fort famously known as Asia’s most haunted place located in Bhangarh village of Alwar district, now just a ruined fort. But it is perfectly maintained by Rajasthan Tourism as a heritage fort. The fort is situated on the lower slope of the hills and the palace is surrounded by lush greenery.

Bhangarh village is situated at 85 km distance from well-known pink city Jaipur and 235 km far from Delhi. So, the nearest airport is Jaipur International Airport which is 88 km away.

I went with my 5 friends and the best option to visit Bhangarh is by road. The village is surrounded by mountains and the scenic view is mind blowing. Just keep your car’s music on and feel the vibes of a road trip. You will definitely enjoy sight-seeing and riding on sloping terrain, whether you enjoy the fort or not. The approach to the entrance gate of the fort in the last 2 km stretch of the road is unpaved.

At the entry gate, you will have to get tickets, which will cost you just Rs.20 per head. Entering through the main gate of the partially ruined fort. You will see temples everywhere. And a map of the fort.

Time Required to Cover the Whole Fort

You may need at least 2 hours to enjoy the fort and get vibes and experiences. The fort’s visiting hours are between 10 am to 5 pm as it is the most haunted place, so they need to maintain this tag. Otherwise, there is nothing like horror etc. Whatever the cause, visitors are no longer allowed in after dark, but you can visit during daylight hours - if you dare.

Let’s Just Start the Exploration

As you walk slowly inside the fort, you will see ruined Bhangarh fort remains which were the main market place during the royal era. And then your photography session would start. Wherever your eyes go, you will see photography spots. From the entry, far ahead on the right side, on the hill top, there is a small temple, which is known as Tantrik’s temple as per the myths, where he used to do Havana etc.

When we saw that temple, we immediately decided to hike on the top of the hill. And frankly speaking no one among us has climbed on hills ever before. More interesting thing is we don’t even have anything kinda hiking equipment and nor did we know the shortcut to go on top. Just saw the temple and decided in excitement. Even nobody had the water bottles. It is definitely going to be a hard trek.

Expert Tip: You should not decide to trek on the hill-top at the entry gate because from that point you will not get any idea of a short-cut way to the top. First you roam the fort and from the Royal Palace you can easily see the shortcut to reach on top

So, we all started trekking from the front side. Full of barbed bushes, sloppy rocks. Our legs were shivering due to the pain of the uphill slope. But after 40-45 minutes of trekking and dried throat, we finally climbed to the top and it was worth it. The Panoramic view from the top was just mesmerizing. The whole fort and the village were looking awesome from the top. We eased our fatigue by lying down for a while in the small temple-like place.

After 15-20 minutes, we found the easy way to reach down the hill. And then we felt like oh, we should first roam the whole fort. Anyways, it was a great lesson and lifetime experience.

The Royal Palace is located at the extreme end of the fort’s limit. You can just see the whole Royal Palace in hardly 15-20 minutes. And a temple is just outside the Palace, where the king comes for worship.

Which is also an Indian classical architecture made with the same stones as the fort. The greenery was just eye soothing. There was a big grass garden outside the temple where children were playing. It was all amazing.

Local Markets and Foods

As it is just a small village, there is not that much variety in food. But being a tourist attraction, the local markets are crowded. And you can find fruit shops and Rajasthani dishes like Mirchi Vada, Kachauri etc. But if you are looking for a proper lunch, then you will have to go somewhere else. Because we were 5-6 people and nobody could find any dhaba in that market. So, in search of the proper lunch we decided to leave the village.

Overall, if you are living in Delhi NCR, Agra, Gwalior or you come to visit Jaipur and wanna go for a full day refreshment from day-to-day life. Then you can surely visit this fort as a day trip.
